The Manufacturing Engineer position develops and implements optimal, cost effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards, recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls and coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised product.
Specific Responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineer include but are not limited to:
  • Develops, evaluates, and enhances manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow. Develops layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Carries out process improvements, problem resolution, project management, and helps with employee training
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient machining and final processing methods.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and assure each vendor has the capabilitiy to meet company requirements according to product specifications, capacity, quality standards and cost
  • Ensures premium Supplier Performance by addressing quality issues with suppliers directly pertaining to incoming parts in the areas of performance and delivery requirements.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  • Analyzes work force utilization, facility layout, and operational data, such as production costs, process flowcharts, and production schedules, to determine efficient utilization of workers and equipment.
  • Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Qualifications of the Manufacturing Engineer:
 
  • Bachelor’s in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering required
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as Manufacturing Engineer or related discipline 
  • Must have previous experience managing processes in Tier 1 or Tier 2 Automotive Supplier or related OEM manufacturing environment
  • Working experience in Production operations, lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and implementation of these programs in facilities, with proven and measurable results
  • Should be familiar with Hardware and Software Specifications, Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Manufacturing Quality, Product Development, and Presenting Technical Information,
  • Strong experience and knowledge of APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flows, Standardized Work, Value Stream Mapping, Guage R&R, SPC, and QOS (Or other similar problem-solving techniques) and other Automotive tools
  • Good oral and written communication. Will be required to submit and/or present reports to management
